Did you sell more this summer than in the spring? Most UK firms did not.
On 7 October 2026, the British Chambers of Commerce published its quarterly survey of over 4,300 UK businesses, 92% of them small or medium-sized. Less than a third (29%) reported increased sales over the previous 3 months. 46% reported no change. 25% saw a decrease.
Its deputy director of economics said: "Most firms are reporting no improvement across almost every indicator we track." And the smallest businesses "have seen sales and cash flow fall further."
If you run a small business, you know what flat feels like. The same handful of customers. The same prospects you have already asked twice. An evening spent hunting for someone new to call, and finding a contact form instead of an email address.
When sales stall, the usual move is to push the same few prospects harder. But if the number of companies that could buy from you is bigger than your pipeline, you do not have a conversion problem. You have a coverage problem.
Winnowed gives you a list of every active company in the trade you sell to, with the contact details each one publishes.
