What you get, what it costs, what you may do with it, and what we do not promise. Written to be read.

Last updated 1 October 2026 · Winnowed Ltd

The short version

You subscribe to the company register, yearly or monthly, and the application comes with it. You may use it for your own business, on your own devices, as much as you reasonably like. If you are using it on behalf of other people's businesses, you need the agency licence instead. We do not promise every company has a findable address, because most do not, and we publish the rate rather than hide it.

1. Who this is between

Winnowed is provided by Winnowed Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17488839, registered office 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA. For anything on this page, write to hans@winnowed.co.uk. "We" and "us" mean Winnowed. "You" means the person or business buying a subscription.

Starter and Team renew every 12 months, and Pipeline every month. If you do not renew, the application keeps working on the lists you have already built, but it can no longer look companies up.

3. Fair use, stated plainly rather than buried

The allowance, and why there is one

Every plan carries a number of companies for each period it covers: a year on Starter and Team, a month on Pipeline. There is no charge per contact and no credit balance that ticks down as you send. The allowance exists because every company we look up costs us money, and an unlimited promise would be one we could not keep.

PlanCompaniesPrice
Winnowed Starter2,000 a year£249 a year
Winnowed Team10,000 a year£625 a year
Winnowed Pipeline10,000 a month£299 a month, for a minimum of 6 months

The allowance does not carry over. Companies not used by the end of a year on Starter and Team, or a month on Pipeline, are not added to the next.

The allowance counts companies returned to you, whether or not each one turns out to publish a usable address. You are never charged twice for the same company. A new list leaves out every company you have already been given, however you asked for it.

To do that we keep a record of which companies each subscription has been given: the subscription key, the company number from the public register, which list it came in, the industry codes and area that list was built from, and the date. No contact details. The websites, addresses and telephone numbers are found on your computer and never reach us. We use the record for 3 things only: leaving those companies out of your next list, handing your most recent list back free if a run stops before it finishes, and answering a question you ask us about your account. We do not use it for anything else and we do not share it.

A prospect list of 2,000 companies is a substantial market. If you get close to your allowance the application tells you before you reach it, not afterwards. You can move from Starter to Team at any point by paying the difference in list price, and your renewal date stays the same. Moving between a yearly plan and Pipeline is arranged with us by email.

There is also a limit of 3,000 website searches in any one day. It bounds a runaway loop rather than a working day, and it resets at midnight.

4. One business, or an agency

A standard subscription is for your own business: finding companies you want to sell to.

If you build lists for other people

If you are an agency, a consultant, a reseller, or anyone building prospect lists on behalf of businesses other than your own, you need an agency licence. It carries a higher company allowance, permits use across multiple client businesses, and costs more because it uses more.

Write to hans@winnowed.co.uk and we will price it against the number of clients and the volume you expect. We would rather agree that up front than discover it later.

Your subscription key is yours. Sharing it, publishing it, or running it for businesses outside your licence is the one thing that will end a subscription without a refund.

5. What you may not do with it

6. What we do not promise

What we measured

Most companies do not publish a contact address that can be verified as theirs. How many do depends on the trade. Where a trade has been measured the free count gives that trade's own figure rather than a range. Where it has not been measured the count says so. The figures behind the count's contact estimate were measured under our previous website check, and will change as we measure under the current one. The contact estimates are based on our measurements to date and will be updated as we measure more: they are a guide, not a promise.

We do not promise a hit rate, and you are not billed per contact, so a low rate in your trade costs you nothing beyond the subscription. What we promise is that every row carries the reason it was kept, refused or withheld, so you can judge it yourself.

Which company a website belongs to

A row pairs a company from the register with a website and an address found elsewhere. That pairing is a judgement we make, not a fact Companies House publishes, and it can be wrong. 2 companies can share a trade and most of a name. A domain can describe a business without belonging to it.

A website is accepted only when the site proves it belongs to the company: it prints the company's registered number, its full registered name or its registered postcode. If nothing on the site proves that, the row carries no website and no contact details, and says why. If the site shows a different company's number, or shows that it belongs to someone else, the row is refused and says so.

We refuse more than we accept wherever the evidence is thin, and every row records the words that decided it, so a pairing can be checked against the company's own site. We do not promise that every website or address in a file belongs to the company it is filed against.

What we do instead is pay for the ones that are wrong. If a row pairs a company with a website that is not theirs, write to hans@winnowed.co.uk within 30 days of the run, naming the row, and we credit that company back to your allowance. Each row can be credited once. Credit goes back to your allowance and is never paid as cash. In a test of 500 companies across 10 trades in October 2026, 3 were given a wrong website, and 3 of the 83 websites delivered were wrong.

We also do not promise that the service is available without interruption. If we are unreachable the application falls back to what it can do without us, and we fix it as quickly as we can.

7. What you are responsible for

Winnowed builds a list and stops. It sends nothing. What you do with the list is yours, and so is the law that applies to it.

In particular, if you send marketing email you must identify yourself, give a working address for opting out, include a United Kingdom postal address, and honour every opt-out permanently. The guide included with your subscription covers this properly. It is not legal advice and it is not a substitute for taking your own.

Holding the file. Once a list is produced you are the data controller for it. That is true of any list from any supplier, and it is worth saying plainly rather than leaving you to find out. It means 2 things. You need a lawful basis for holding the details: in practice legitimate interest, with an assessment written down behind it. And Article 14 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation creates a duty to tell people that their details were obtained from a public source, which for most senders is met by a line in the first message and a privacy notice they can reach.

Winnowed reduces what you are carrying but does not remove it. Where a website publishes only a named individual's address, that address is left where it is and the row arrives without it, so a person's contact details do not enter your file from us. A general business address is a lighter thing to hold than a named person's. It is not nothing. The guide sets out what this means in practice, in the same plain terms as the opt-out guidance, and it is not legal advice either.

8. Refunds and cancelling

If Winnowed does not do what this site says it does, write to hans@winnowed.co.uk within 30 days and we will refund you in full. We may offer to put it right first, and you are free to decline and take the refund.

That is separate from, and on top of, the credit for a mis-paired row in section 6. A row that names the wrong company is put back into your allowance when you tell us within 30 days of the run; a product that does not do what was described is refunded outright.

If you are buying as a consumer rather than a business you have the statutory 14-day right to cancel. Because the application and register are delivered immediately, starting to use them means asking us to begin straight away, which ends that right.

You can stop at any time on Starter and Team: register access runs to the end of the 12 months already paid for and does not renew. Pipeline has a minimum term of 6 months; after that you can stop at the end of any month, and access runs to the end of that month. The lists you built stay yours.

9. Done for you

If you would rather we built the list, we run your market for you. A market run is £995 for up to 5,000 companies across up to 3 trades, delivered within 2 working days of the agreed brief for a single market run; with several runs booked, we confirm the delivery date when we agree the brief. Companies above 5,000 are 6p each. We can also check a list you already hold against the company register and each company's website: 5p a row, with a minimum of £250.

Done-for-you work is invoiced, not bought through the checkout, and it does not include a subscription or an application key. The file we deliver is yours on the same terms as a list you build yourself: sections 4, 5 and 7 apply to it.

10. Ending it

We can end a subscription for the sharing or licence breaches in section 4, and would refund the unused part unless the breach was deliberate.

11. Liability

We are liable for what the law does not let us exclude, and for what we are actually responsible for. We are not liable for lost profits, lost business, or damage to your sending reputation arising from how you used a list. Our total liability is limited to what you paid in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

12. Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes and current customers are told by email. Changes do not apply retrospectively to a subscription already bought.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction.

The price shown is the total payable. Questions about any of this: hans@winnowed.co.uk.
